MDHA  - Master of Digital Health Alliance

The MDHA (Master of Digital Health Alliance) is a global initiative dedicated to bridging the critical competency gap in the healthcare workforce. As digital and AI transformations accelerate, the MDHA works to ensure that health professionals are equipped with the specialized skills necessary to lead this evolution.

Inspired by the success and mobility of the Master of Public Health (MPH) model, the MDHA Alliance advocates for a globally recognized and harmonized Master of Digital Health (MDH) degree. We move beyond basic "tech literacy" to formalize standards in interoperability, data governance, cybersecurity, ethics, and leadership.

Our Core Pillars:

  • Framework Co-creation: Developing a Global MDH Competency Framework.
  • Curriculum Harmonization: Supporting core and specialized learning outcomes across borders.
  • Quality Assurance: Enabling international accreditation and standardized excellence.
  • Global Collaboration: Facilitating academic exchanges and joint research initiatives.

Through the Pfarrkirchen Declaration, the MDHA has transitioned from concept to commitment, uniting global institutions to professionalize digital health education for the 21st century.

Title: AI-supported User-Centered Design of Digital Health Services

SpeakersMartin Gerdes, PhD (Norway), Karl-Heinz Frank Reichert (Norway)
Date: May 22, Thursday, 2025

Format: Online

Abstract:

This intensive workshop equips participants with theoretical understanding and practical skills for user-centered development of Digital Health services enhanced by artificial intelligence design tools. Through structured activities, participants progress from initial concept generation to detailed design specifications using both traditional design methodologies and cutting-edge AI tools.

The workshop emphasizes the importance of stakeholder involvement throughout the design process, teaching participants to identify and prioritize digital health concepts through stakeholder interviews, idea generation, requirement identification and systematic evaluation using comprehensive criteria. Participants learn to develop compelling service descriptions, create sales pitches, and construct detailed user scenarios to ground their concepts in real-world contexts.

A significant focus is placed on understanding and documenting the needs of different user groups through persona development, challenge extraction from scenarios, and evidence-based research. The participants transform these insights into functional and non-functional requirements, user interface specifications, and UX prototypes — both paper-based and AI-generated.

The workshop structure follows a practical product development workflow:

  1. 1. Theoretical foundation of User Centered Design
  2. 2. Identification and prioritization of digital health concepts
  3. 3.  Stakeholder needs analysis and requirement specification
  4. 4.  AI-supported prototype development
  5. 5.  Presentation of results and prototype demonstration
  6. 6.  Individual reflection on learning outcomes

The faculty European Campus Rottal-Inn is a semi-autonomous branch of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (abbreviated to DIT. In German the DIT is titled THD – Technische Hochschule Deggendorf, a university of applied sciences in Bavaria). ECRI was established in 2015 as a cross-disciplinary educational institution preparing multilingual, global graduates for international careers in applied healthcare and technical sciences. ECRI offers two full-time study programs in the field of Healthcare Information and Communication Technologies: Bachelor of Health Informatics, and Master of Digital Health (MDH), both taught in English, targeting not only local but primarily international students.

ECRI is located in the district centre Pfarrkirchen, in the region of Lower Bavaria (South-East of Germany). It is a charming touristic town, nestled among rolling, picturesque hills, close to the Austrian border and only one hour’s drive away from Deggendorf. Attractive cities nearby are Salzburg, Regensburg and Passau, and Munich is just a 90-minute drive away. The proximity to Austria and the Czech Republic puts the district in the heart of Europe. Pfarrkirchen has excellent school and education facilities, and offers many leisure activities. In the recent years Pfarrkirchen has become culturally renowned in the area due to its exceptional art exhibitions, museum nights and numerous festivals and events throughout the year. In the summer, the old town festival tempts thousands of visitors with its multicultural culinary and musical events.

Review of past events

On 9 and 10 November 2023, the fourth DigiHealthDay (DHD) was hosted by the European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI). The International Congress received an impressive 1,323 registrations from 105 nations and brought together more than 450 people on-site and online. Academics, students, policy makers, company representatives and digital health enthusiasts came together to discuss the future of technology use in healthcare. The amount of positive feedback marks the DHD as a leading platform for digital health research, education and networking.

Three plenary sessions, three online sessions, fifteen keynote speeches and one panel discussion: the event’s programme – this year focusing on ethics and regulations, innovation, entrepreneurship, and AI research – gave the DigiHealth community a platform to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and spark future collaborations. It was a rare opportunity for on-site attendees whose level of expertise ranged from academic backgrounds to simple interest, to engage directly with some of the world's foremost experts on digital health. International speakers included Dipak Kalra, PhD (United Kingdom), Rajendra Gupta, PhD (India), Anne Snowdon of HIMSS Analytics, PhD (Canada), Miklós Szócska, PhD (Hungary) and Lars Lindsköld, MD (Sweden), to name but a few.
