WHO Collaborating Centre for Digital Health

at the European Campus Rottal-Inn

In February 2025, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Europe designated the European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (THD) as the German WHO Collaborating Centre for Digital Health.
This makes ECRI one of the 27 current WHO partners in Germany – and the only centre on Digital Health.

The designation is initially valid for four years and can be extended.

tasks and objectives

As a WHO Collaborating Centre, the European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) supports the WHO in the following areas:

  • Training and capacity building for healthcare professionals
  • Research and evaluation of digital health measures
  • Policy and strategy development to strengthen digital health systems
  • Evidence-based recommendations for policy and practice

Specific contributions include:

  • Analysis of existing political and ethical frameworks in digital health

  • Collaboration on the revision of a WHO toolkit for planning, implementing and evaluating digital health solutions
