Ask your Questions to our Student Ambassador Alejandra

Hi, I’m Alejandra Mateos, 20 years old and a bachelor student in my 7th semester.

Do you have any questions about student life and the Bachelor Industrial Engineering programme? I would be happy to share my experience with you and give you an insight into life as a DIT student. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Why did I choose this study program?

I chose industrial engineering because I wanted a field that would let me explore many different areas while figuring out what really interested me. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do, but industrial engineering felt like the perfect fit because it’s so broad and versatile. Looking back, it’s been one of the best decisions of my life. I truly love the program because I get to dive into a variety of subjects, from economics and business accounting to physics, mathematics, fluid dynamics, and electrical fundamentals. I also enjoy how it combines theory with practical applications, letting me understand how things work in real life. Every day, I feel challenged and inspired, and that keeps me motivated and passionate about what I’m learning.

My personal tip to you:

Don´t be afraid of feeling unsure at first. Industrial engineering covers so many areas that is normal not to have everything figured out immediately. Stay open and try new things, different projects, internships or courses, even the ones you didn´t expect to enjoy, and over time you´ll find what truly motivates you and where you want to specialize. At the same time, learn from your classmates with different perspectives, cultures, and ways of thinking. It´s a unique chance to expand your horizons, build a global network, and gain skills that go far beyond the classroom. Combine that with exploring different subjects in industrial engineering, and you´ll get the most out of your studies.

Good to know:

Talk to current students or alumni, they can give honest insights about the workload, professors, and campus life.

That's what I particularly like about my course of studies:

I really enjoy the balance between problem-solving and creativity in industrial engineering. It’s not just about numbers or formulas, it’s about designing solutions that work in real life. I also like that the program encourages teamwork and gives opportunities to work on projects that have a tangible impact, which makes learning much more engaging and rewarding.

That is why you should study at the DIT/ECRI:

DIT/ECRI offers a strong international environment, with students and professors from diverse backgrounds. The programs are well-structured, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on projects, and the university provides excellent support for internships, exchanges, and networking opportunities.

That's why you should study this course of studies:

Industrial engineering is broad, versatile, and highly practical. It prepares you for many different career paths, helping you discover what truly interests you while giving you the skills to solve real-world problems.

My best experience during my studies:

One of my best experiences was a project where I had to design a renewable energy system for a household of four people. It was incredibly rewarding to finally apply the knowledge I had learned in class and see how all the concepts came together in a real engineering project. Collaborating with classmates from diverse backgrounds made the experience even more inspiring, as it showed me the true value of teamwork and different perspectives in solving complex problems.
