Full-time

Technologie Campus Mainburg

Application period: 11.06.2025

Start: from winter semester 2025 / 2026 or later

The global energy transition towards a more sustainable energy system is the central challenge of this century. The building sector has a key role to play here. With its Mainburg-based Technology Transfer Centre, Deggendorf Institute of Technology is establishing a centre of excellence for sustainable building energy technology in the heart of Bavaria. A technology transfer that is brought about through the close co-operation of research, industry and business will ensure practical, cutting-edge research and offer high potential for business start-ups. The Technology Centre’s research focuses on areas such as system solutions in sustainable building energy technology and energy supply solutions in the Global South. The creative further development of these as well as other key research areas is expressly encouraged.

main tasks

As a professor, you will be responsible for developing research at the Technology Centre, with focus being placed on sustainable building energy technology for the global energy transition.
The professorship simultaneously offers an opportunity for the successful candidate to train and support the next generation of young engineers at our vibrant and rapidly growing European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI). Our campus is an interdisciplinary faculty and international microcosm, with 1.600 students from over 100 countries. With its “One World in one Campus” vision, education at the Campus is orientated towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and focuses on affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, health and well-being or international partnerships.

Its teachings centre on energy systems engineering, industrial engineering and building products and processes, and cater to energy systems, construction, sustainable development and new markets in the global energy transition. These include renewable energies, energy supply in the Global South, energy and resource efficiency, international energy markets and policy project work and simulation as well as scientific work. In order to provide students with a modern and practice-oriented education, your tasks will include not only teaching but also actively helping to shape the development of the Campus, the degree programmes and the associated activities, while also engaging in self-governance.

your profile

We are looking for an experienced, creative and dedicated academic with a degree in engineering or natural sciences to contribute to the further development of our activities and to strengthen the international reputation of our higher education establishment. The successful candidate will have a background in applied research in the field of sustainable building energy technology for the global energy transition, sound knowledge of energy systems, and internationally recognised professional experience in the field of energy systems. Interdisciplinary knowledge and international experience in the field of intelligent decentralised building energy technology, decentralised energy systems and smart communities with a focus on Europe and the Global South will round off the successful candidate’s profile. Extensive experience in acquiring third-party funding in a national and international context, in the management of R&D projects and in establishing international collaborations with universities, industrial partners and research institutions is also desirable.

Due to the international orientation of our English-speaking campus, the language of instruction is English. As such, a very good level of German proficiency and fluent written and spoken English skills are required. Several years of experience abroad and international cooperation with academic and industrial research partners would also be advantageous, as would experience and expertise in the field of interactive and virtual teaching. The position is also explicitly suitable for applicants from the Global South, and applications from there are explicitly encouraged.

Focus on research

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology is one of the most dynamic and ambitious Universities of Applied Sciences in Southern Germany renowned for excellence in research. R&D projects are always rooted in real-life cases, as research staff collaborate with regional and international companies from the private sector to develop innovative solutions for immediate application, mainly funded by national government and EU grants.

For example, between January and April 2023, 27 applications for research funds were approved by the local government, supplying our professors and scientists with the financial backing to work on R&D projects. To further support these projects, professors are granted teaching-free semesters to focus on research work.

Our own facilities provide an ideal environment for applied research and teaching: 3 teaching campuses in Deggendorf, Cham and Pfarrkirchen plus 13 innovation and technology campuses equipped with the best facilities to specialise in a particular field (as depicted) are dotted in a network around the region. Research projects are generally categorised into four main areas: Digitalisation, Sustainability, Intelligent Mobility and Health Sciences.
