Pursuing sustainability at the ECRI with an eye on the future

Right after finishing his bachelor´s degree, it was clear to Ahmad that he wanted to pursue a Master´s degree in sustainability at a university in Germany. That is when he cameacross the Master´s programme Healthy and Sustainable Buildings at the ECRI. He is part of the programme ´s first cohort and loves the personal exchange between students and professors. His favourite time on campus is at 1.30 p.m. when he meets up with his friends for lunch at the cafeteria.

Shortly after moving from Syria to Germany he almost needed surgery because he broke his hand. Despite that he would like to stay here for three to five years depending on available job prospects. Ahmad wants to deepen his professional engineering skills and maybe even do a PhD. Where he will eventually settle down depends on what the future holds.

Ahmad feels quite comfortable in Germany despite the big cultural differences, particularly the ones in architecture. For now, he is enjoying his studies and the nature surrounding Pfarrkirchen. He is also working on improving his German.
