DIT opens its doors to international exchange students

1.10.2020 | THD-Pressestelle

Every year, many young people from all over the world come to the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT). They fulfil their dream of spending a semester abroad. DIT stands for international exchange, intercultural campus atmosphere and a lively welcoming culture. It is one of the most international universities of applied sciences in Bavaria. While some Bavarian universities have decided to cancel the entire student exchange programme for the winter semester 2020/2021 due to the Corona pandemic, DIT has remained open for this. On Monday, 28 September, the team of the International Office now welcomed 30 international exchange students.

DIT is networked with more than 190 partner universities worldwide. In principle, the university has made it possible for students to come to Deggendorf for an exchange semester for the winter semester 2020/2021. A quarter of the 120 young people who usually come to Deggendorf were welcomed by the International Office this year. Numerous precautions were taken in advance to protect all students and staff. A comprehensive hygiene concept was developed. Students from risk areas had to provide a negative corona test and a medical certificate confirming that they did not show any symptoms of an infection with SARS-CoV-2. In addition, the International Office has worked intensively in recent weeks on a virtual implementation of the orientation weeks. This traditional two-week introductory programme makes it easier for DIT guests to get started, familiarise themselves with their new “home” and helps them to make initial contacts. The hybrid of on-site events and virtual formats now offered students the opportunity for socialising while ensuring the highest security. Since personal contacts must be reduced to a minimum, a large proportion of the courses for guest students will also be offered virtually in the beginning of the winter semester 2020/2021. In order to ensure that there is nevertheless a direct exchange between German and international students, numerous opportunities for getting to know each other virtually are offered in addition to teaching.
